Over the Years

This is the story of four generations of a family who lived in Barma mansion in the village Ghaatan, in India. Three ladies of the house are pregnant. The mother, the daughter and the daughter-in-law. The mother had only a son Dhanilal and now gives birth to another daughter Rajjo and the daughter-in-law gives birth to a son Ratan.
As they grow up Ratan is pampered and becomes very spoilt. Even the second son Moti and Rajjo are not given so much attention. Ratan and his brother Moti are sent for schooling while Rajjo is not allowed because in those days in the village, it was felt that girls need not be educated as they were just meant to be married.
Rajjo grows up to like just two people. One is a young boy Shyam who is the son of the accountant and Ara who is the daughter of a gardener who works in another mansion. For fixing the marriage of Rajjo, her brother Dhanilal calls a ‘boy’ and his family but the astrologer tells them that the horoscope of Rajjo shows that the boy she marries will die within a month of their marriage. No one is ready to marry Rajjo after this, except Shyam but Rajjo refuses to marry Shyam and she calls him a ‘nobody’. Stung by this Shyam starts studying to be a lawyer.
The wedding of Ratan is fixed. Meanwhile a young man Jagan comes to live in the third mansion in the village. Jagan shows his interest in Rajjo, For the wedding of Ratan, Rajjo invites her friend Ara and is very hurt that she doesn’t come, but the next day she is told that Ara had left her house to attend the wedding. Later it is found that Ara was the victim of an attempted gang rape and she had jumped into the river to save herself and dies
This really affects Rajjo as she feels that she loses whosoever she loves. Meanwhile Moti is also married.
Ratan and his wife have a son Noni and a daughter Niti..The second son Moti and his wife Lata also have a son Bhay and a daughter Bibi. This makes Rajjo more jealous and she feels very bitter with life. Rajjo then starts showing her preference for Jagan and one day both run away from the house, but Shyam tells Dhanilal where Rajjo must have gone.
The men of the family reach the place and find that Jagan and Rajjo have been married in a small ceremony. Dhanilal does not accept it. and tells Jagan that he will give no inheritence to Rajjo, then Jagan says that he will leave Rajjo.
Rajjo comes back and seems shattered and demands all the property. Dhanilal is forced to will all his property to her and gives his sons just Rupees two lakhs each and a house to live in. But this makes Dhanilal so sad that he becomes sick and finally dies. Now Rajjo is the owner of all the property and she orders her two nephews Ratan and Moti to leave the mansion with their families.
Time passes and the children forget about their days in the mansion. Then one day a call comes that Rajjo is not well. Ratan and Moti rush to the village to visit Rajjo hoping they would get something of their property. But Rajjo is very rude towards them and tells them that she has not called them. She tells them that she will give her property to her adopted daughter Sundari. However if Noni or Bhay prove their virility then the winner could be married to Sundari and get the property.
Both Noni and Bhay fail in their virility test and the families return. But before that Bhay tells Rajjo that she has been very unfair towards Ratan and Moti. Failing the virility test makes Noni and Bhay worried about being impotent. They start trying out if they are really impotent, often with comical results.
Rajjo has a change of heart and calls the families again and divides the property in three parts and keeps one part for herself, while Ratan and Moti get the other two parts. The two families return to the mansion. The children find their partners and they get Rajjo married to Shyam, however Jagan returns and creates a problem but the police arrive and arrest him since he was wanted in a crime.
