The story of this novel is set in a small town of India. During post independence period of India, the Landlords (Zamidars) who had enjoyed a life almost of royalty, had to face the decline of their fortunes. This is a story of such a family. The old traditions and culture had to change with the times. Aasu, the grand daughter of the head of the family , Mahavir Chandra, rebels and fights her own battles. Does she emerge victorious?
